Melissa’s Story
“Don’t try to find solutions in people that prevent you from growing and healing.”
Share your stigma experience.
I felt like I can’t tell anyone I suffer from depression, anxiety and an eating disorder because everyone automatically start assuming I’m lying and overeating about my situation. No one has taken my illness serious because I look normal. Being Latina adds an extra layer of stigma because mental health isn’t something that is disscused or understood in our culture.
How did you overcome this experience?
I accept that I have an illness and knowing that God is there for me even when I’m not there for myself has helped me push through.
Help others by sharing a brief, positive message.
You can’t heal in the same environment where you got sick. Don’t try to find solutions in people that prevent you from growing and healing. You are not alone. Just go out there in search of people who understand and make you a better person.
