“I overcame this by breathing in and out.”

What kind of stigma did you experience/observe?

I knew today was the day we had to do oral presentations, we were learning about poems and we had to present a poem. My teacher called on my to go up and present my poem. Back in fourth grade I was a good speaker and had been to competitions where I had to do oral speaking so I thought I had this in the bag, sadly I didn’t and my heart started pounding, for some reason I started my poem and then I don’t really know what happened, I started shaking and then I couldn’t speak. I had this huge lump in my throat and I couldn’t help but I started crying, I tried to stop crying but I got embarrassed and cried even more it was the worse day of my life. I then rushed out of the classroom and down to the bathroom.

How did you overcome this experience?

I overcame this by breathing in and out. I also used common solution which is called “Knowing your surroundings” Where you look at 5 things around you, 4 things you can touch 3 things you can hear 2 things you can feel and 1 thing you might be able to taste, this really helped me to calm down and my teacher talked with me saying he has had this type of problem with himself before.
